Embracing the ADHD Journey: A Tale of Beauty, Creativity, and Unapologetic Self-Love
Hey there, Beauty Enthusiasts! It's Janet here, and I've got a story to share—one that goes beyond the shimmer of eyeshadows and the glow of highlighters. It's a journey of self-discovery, acceptance, and the liberating power of embracing my ADHD.
Last year, I received an ADHD diagnosis, and let me tell you, it was a game-changer. Fast forward to now, armed with newfound knowledge and a prescription that helps calm the storm in my mind, I've come to realize that my brain dances to its own beat. And you know what? I'm not just okay with that—I'm celebrating it!
From Chaos to Focus: My ADHD Revelation
The introduction of my new meds brought a sense of calm and focus, a revelation that allowed me to dive into my passions with newfound clarity. But guess what? I still jump from one beauty project to the next, and you know what? That's more than okay—it's my superpower!
Master of None, But Proud of It
For the longest time, I thought I had to stick to one hobby until I mastered it. Well, newsflash: my brain craves variety. It's like a never-ending quest for that sweet hit of dopamine. So, you know what I decided? If I want to change my hobby every week, I'm going to own it! No shame, no regrets.
Unboxing Memories and Sharing Joy
A couple of months ago, I found myself unboxing my mom's jewelry. Instead of letting them gather dust, I decided to share the beauty. I've started listing them on Depop, along with other fabulous finds! Because why keep these treasures hidden when they can bring joy to others?
Diving into DIY Dopamine
One day, when my to-do list felt more like a mountain than a molehill, I stumbled upon an old bag of jewelry-making supplies. The hows and whys escaped me, but you know what? Making a new necklace for myself unleashed a tidal wave of dopamine, and suddenly, I was unstoppable! Cue the productivity explosion.
Laughing at My ADHD: Because Why Not?
Oh, the quirks of ADHD! Let's throw in a couple of jokes, shall we? Like the fact that my attention span can rival that of a goldfish, or how I can hyperfocus on something for hours and forget to eat. Laughter is my secret weapon against the challenges, and hey, if I can't beat 'em, I might as well laugh with 'em!
The Beauty of Unapologetic Self-Love
So here's the bottom line, my beauties: I'm on a mission to keep ME happy and creative. Whether it's sharing my mom's jewelry, experimenting with new beauty looks, or diving into a DIY project, I'm doing it without an ounce of shame. Because in this journey of beauty and self-love, embracing every facet of who we are is the ultimate glow-up.
Join me on this adventure, and let's celebrate the beauty of being beautifully, unapologetically ourselves!
Stay radiant, Janet 💄✨
Have You Ever Wondered Why Hair Turns Gray?
Have you ever wondered what causes hair to go gray?
Well, as we age our hair follicle cells die this can result in balding or graying.
In the case of hair turning gray the pigment in the cells diminish and voilà gray hair is left.
Causes Of Hair Turning Gray
___________________________
Genetics
Medication, certain medications can turn hair gray or white.
Old age, for most of us it will happen. Some will be lucky and not turn gray until later or could live to be 90 years old and still just have some "glitter".
Working in a stressful environment over a longer period of time.
Trauma like losing a loved one suddenly or things like a pandemic. Did you see a change in the amount of gray hair you had after being quarantined for months!
I DID!

Unfortunately there are no known treatments to reverse gray hair.
The color gray is made by mixing black and white.
Black is made by an absence of color and white is made by mixing all colors together.
Options For Living With This Issue
___________________________
1. Throw up your arms and embrace the natural change. If this is an option you want to try there are products that can help make that gray hair shine! Blue or Violet shampoos can help neutralize the brassy or yellow tones you might get from hard water, sun, or chorine. Used two to three times a week in place of your regular daily shampoo is a simple way to make your gray or white hair look the best it can. Unite has one shampoo listed in the top ten by byrdie.com.

2. You just want to see the grays gone? Ask a friend or family member who their stylist is! A salon visit with the right stylist can not only cover those pesky grays but it can also be a chance to relax and unwind! Is your budget tight at the moment? Thinking of buying a box at the store? This is always an option but just remember Cosmetologists go to school to learn the chemistry of color. It's not easy and can be very messy. Hair color is a chemical and if you pick the wrong box you may have no option but to see a Stylist to get it fixed. Two things, I promise your hair will never be the way it was until it grows out! Color correction can take 100's of dollars and hours and hours sitting. It might be worth scheduling a consultation with a professional Hair Stylist.
3. Do you already have the perfect stylist? Do you see him/her every 4 to 5 weeks? At week 5 are you losing it and feeling old? Need or want to stretch your visits to 5 or 6 weeks. Guess what? You absolutely CAN! After you wash and style your hair for the day, pick up your root touch up/concealer. There are many different manufacturers and ways to apply.
Personally my favorite is Style Edit. This comes in 5 different shades. You can choose from spray, powder, cover up stick or fibers spray.
If you want to try one but can't decide which color or application method shoot me an email, attach a selfie and I'll help guide you in choosing. janetshulenberger@gmail.com

Are you having trouble with your professional color fading before you get back to the salon. Grays can be stubborn! Two weeks after a clients first visit with met I would get a call two weeks later saying they see gray again. Now I'm not talking about the grow out area at the scalp. For that you need the temporary root touch up. But if the color is fading too soon you need to look at other things. Do you have hard water? Are you in the sun too much? For fading it's important to use a sulfate free shampoo. There are many wonderful professional shampoos out there. If your stylist does not sell products ask them for a suggestion on which shampoo would be best for your hair. I have three go-to's for shampoos for colored hair. ColorProof is magic in a bottle. They have a custom formulation for all types of hair that needs to be treated with kindness to prevent color fading.
For frizzy hair consider using
For thin and fine hair consider using
For very dry hair consider using
4. Do you have to drag yourself out of bed to go to work? Does it feel like you're dying inside? Is your boss a Micro Manager? Is your job incredibly stressful. During this pandemic time my thoughts always go to the health field and first responder positions. Stress! EVERYONE has felt it!
5. Have you seen the movies where someone is scared S-LESS and the next scene they have a gray patch in the front? In my 30+ years experience as a Hair Stylist I can tell you THIS CAN HAPPEN! Now most people will see it happen over a longer period of time but I've had clients go from 10% gray to 80% gray within a matter of 5 weeks! Trauma like losing a loved one suddenly or violently. It may not be noticed right away from the clients perspective but trust me Hair Stylists see it happen many times throughout their career.
It's not stopping your hair from turning gray, it's how you handle it!
This blog is written from my personal experience.

Hope
I can’t believe its been two years since the world got flipped-turned upside down.
I decided last week that I needed to do something for myself. Normally I make goals and when they are met I do something for ME! Its been two years since since I have done anything for ME! Unfortunately I have not met any of the goals I made for myself last year, but I’m tired! I’m tired of feeling like I don’t deserve anything for myself.
I almost made it two years and no COVID for me! That status changed 3 weeks ago. I have had all three shots but that was still not enough to completely shield me for this terrible virus that has changed so many lives. So many lives lost. I can’t imagine loosing someone to this.
The good part was since I was vaccinated and boosted so it was short lived. But it was no joke! I can’t imagine someone getting COVID without being vaccinated. I spent so much energy running from this virus! Hunkered down during this rollercoaster ride of trying to stay sane.
Here is where HOPE comes in!
Jason had the most amazing thing happen last week!
He was offered a job working with our friend James! It is just to perfect to pass up. I think this just might be a dream job for him! And yes its 100% remote! I am so proud of Jason and I can’t thank James enough for thinking of Jason. Jason and James worked together over 25 years ago, that is how we met James. This job is going to allow us to travel to Denver more often. YAY!! All of this plus it seems like things are better with the virus. (Knock On Wood) I have realized that my HOPE is back! When there is nothing to look forward to there is no HOPE. With this great news I jumped off the ledge and and just did it! As I told my friend James I had my face rebuilt!
I started doing botox injections five years ago and added some fillers a little later. The fillers were to last two years but for me I got three years out of them. The fillers dissolve so slowly that you really don’t notice when they are gone. One day you look in the mirror and say HOLY CRAP I look awful! Now, I know I don’t look that bad but I realized that it was weighing on my motivation. I have worked so hard on my mental health but I needed to like what I saw when I looked in the mirror too!
OMG! I forgot how much I love how I look with fillers!!
Where Do I Go From Here?
It all begins with an idea.
11/12/2021
It’s almost been 2 years since we have not had to think about certain things.
Should we go to an event?
Is my mask fitting right?
When did I last wash my hands?
Did I just touch my face?
Do I have hand sanitizer in my car?
I said to Jason yesterday while we were eating in a restaurant, I actually can go minutes at a time without thinking about COVID. I decided to start a blog for self healing and to help me remember things. The last 21 months have been a blur and I wish I would have started sooner.
Jason and I have been vaccinated and have also received our booster shot! I do remember the feeling the day we received our first shot back in April. I was so happy and just a little relieved. I knew it would be awhile before we would be able to get back to normal but at least we were headed in the right direction!
